I'm hearing some are truly pissed and feeling like their kids shouldn't have to sign anything other than a scholarship contract, while some are privately applauding a new way to handle the kids who really escalate the issue of drinking without ever really being punished - particularly the stars. But no one with inside knowledge has posted anything we can learn from yet.

The change in coaching staff several years ago was "traumatic" for a lot of the Tarheel team. The new coach had a more conservative view on how far anyone could go outside the rules. My child was on the team during this change. There was some "backlash" from a few team members who were upset by the new regime. As a parent of a Tarheel swim/dive team member, I would welcome the contract but only if it was going to be enforced. Based on the original reason for this thread I think there might be a few "glitches" to work out in terms of enforcement....

Good point about discrimination when it comes to "stars" punishment. If a coach is not willing to enforce the rules equitably among everyone on the team, then the rules are a joke. That goes for any team, any sport....

Anonymous Mom, you may have a few points but no one is going to listen to you because it's tough to give you any respect. I don't want to get too personal, but how intelligent are you really? You spend THIS much time defending your point to a message board? You have no credibility in my book.

And really, who cares? Take your self-righteous self elsewhere.

A recurring theme on this message board (or at least this thread) is the need to let me know that EVERYONE or NO ONE believes this or that.

My intelligence and credibility have been questioned and many responses have been nothing more than "target practice."

Now I am self righteous....

I thought I found a forum for discussing concerns in college swimming. This thread is not one I started, simply one I felt compelled to contribute to...my mistake.

I have come to realize that this message board is the equivalent of a bunch of guys sitting in a testosterone filled bar trying to see who can outdo the other. So all you "bullies" can have at it. My supposed "lack of intelligence" is telling me to stop wasting time here and move on.....

AMom

I have less time invested in this thread than you but have empathy for you child's predicament and concern for my own. My concern means that I monitor the situation but do on get personally involved. My child has left home and is now making and being responsible for their own decisions, just as my parents did; I turned out ok.

This particular forum is packed with testosterone ridden Alpha dogs, who do what they do when challenged, no big deal. I for one respect your view (and that of the Alpha dogs) and hope that these skirmishes will not deter your future input on other subjects.

I guessing they won't.

Man, I haven't been on in a while, and this Anonymous Mom stuff is hilarious. I can't tell if she's joking or just an impersonator taking cheap hits at the Frank Comfort coaching staff.

If your story of your son (not even the most classless would hold down a girl) being force-fed liquor is true, its his/your fault for not bringing it to the attention of the appropriate coach (or administrator if need be).

To be brutally honest, it seems as though you are just expressing your frustration and regrets about your college swimming decision.
