Kenyon Stays Atop Division III Poll

Somers, WI , December 29th, 2008
A record-setting performance at the Nike Cup propelled Kenyon College, the longtime lords of Division III swimming to a near-unanimous lead in the latest CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Division IIII Dual Meet Polls.

The Lords and Ladies, who own the nation's fastest times in each relay, claimed seventeen of nineteen first place votes in the women's poll and all but two of twenty-five first place votes cast in the men's poll.  Kenyon has cast a long shadow over Division III swimming with the Lords winning 29 consecutive NCAA Championships and the Ladies winning twenty-two of the past twenty-five titles.  The CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Poll reflect dual-meet strength.

In the women's poll, Emory University and Denison University retained their second and third-place rankings while Amherst, with one first-place vote, moved ahead of Williams for fourth place in the poll.  UC Santa Cruz made the biggest jump.  After not being ranked in the first poll, the Banana Slugs crawled up to 11th in the national poll.  Luther College, ranked 16th in the poll, received the final first-place vote.

In the men's poll, Kenyon remains in the top spot.  Last year's dual-meet champions, Denison University moved up a spot into second, one spot and eight points ahead of Emory University.  Washington University and Luther College each received one first place vote.  Wash U moved ahead of Johns Hopkins into fourth while Luther dropped a spot to 23rd.  UC Santa Cruz and Washington & Lee University both benefitted from strong swims at the UCSC Invitational.  The Banana Slugs jumped up nine spots to 17th while the Generals gained six to rank 13th.
