Monmouth's Crawford off to Rose Hulman

Terre Haute, IN , September 25th, 2008

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has named Keith Crawford as the fourth head men's and women's swimming and diving coach in school history, effective October 6. Crawford replaces Michael Caruso who accepted a club position in his native Massachusetts.

Monmouth is expected to name its assistant as head coach for the upcoming season.

Crawford took over a dormant Monmouth program in 2003 and quickly made them competitive in the  Midwest Conference. Named Midwest Conference "Men's Coach of the Year" in 2007 and 2008, his men finished second at both the 2007 and 2008 MWC Championships. The Scots women placed fourth in 2007 and fifth in 2008. Crawford’s teams have produced nine individual and relay conference champions. Monmouth’s teams excel out of the pool, too. The men’s and women’s teams have been honored by the College Swim Coaches Association for excellence in academics.

Crawford told his former team, that he was leaving Monmouth to be closer to family.

"I'm happy for him," explained one swimmer, "but at the same time very upset to know that this season is going to be difficult for the entire team."

Crawford was a four-year student athlete and graduated with degrees in history and secondary education from Xavier University in 2001. He earned his master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Management at Indiana State University in 2003. In addition to his duties as swimming coach, Crawford serves as director of the Huff Athletic Center and teaches swimming and lifeguarding courses.
