Carleton College Men
Andrew Mering (Jr./Baraboo, Wis.) won the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes on day two of the Great Scot Invitational hosted by Macalester College. The Knights did not compete in the swimming portion on Friday night.
Carleton won its first race on Saturday, getting to the wall first in the 200-yard medley relay. Eric Brenner (Jr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) later added top honors in the 1-meter diving competition. He was third on the 3-meter board on Friday evening.
The Knights also added a second-place performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Carleton had several other top three finishers:
Andrew Hardt (Fy./Mount Kisco, N.Y./American School) and Kevin Hallman (So./Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) placed second and third respectively in the 400-yard individual medley. Hallman added a third-place showing in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Brian Kilgour (Jr./Wichita, Kan./Wichita East) was second in the 200-yard butterfly and third in the 100-yard race using the same stroke.
Ethan Sagin (Fy./Cumberland, Md./Allegany) added a third-place performance in the 200-yard butterfly.
Djem Kissiov (So./Madison, Wis./West) placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Erik Klontz (Fy./Bethseda, Md./Bethseda-Chevy Chase) took second place in the 100-yard freestyle.
Eugene Nishi (Sr./Yokohama, Japan/Zushi-Kaisei) was third in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Knights now travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for their winter competition trip from Dec. 7-14.
Carleton College Women
Despite not competing in the swimming events on day one, the Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team still posted 11 event victories on Saturday at the Great Scot Invitational hosted by Macalester College. Kate Alexander (Sr./Tigard, Ore./Tualatin) won three individual events, the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes and the 400-yard individual medley.
Molly Spence (Fy./Tacoma, Wash.) won both the 200- and 1650-yard freestyle races with Carleton taking the top three spots in the shorter race and the top two in the longer one. Kelsey Ihinger (Sr./Eden Praire, Minn.) added a victory in the 200-yard butterfly. Kale Zicafoose (Jr./Omaha, Neb./Westside) was first to the wall in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes as the Knights once again grabbed the first three spots in both events.
Carleton also added victories in all three relays in which the team competed: the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays as well as the 200-yard medley relay.
