Draper Hired at New College of St. Mary Program

Omaha, Neb. , March 2nd, 2009
College of Saint Mary (CSM) is pleased to announce that Rich Draper has been hired as head swim coach for the new women's swimming program at the University.

The new Flames' coach comes to CSM from Ralston High School where he served as assistant head coach for the girls and boys swim teams. Other past positions include head coach for the boys and girls swim teams at Millard North High School; Assistant men's swim coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Iowa; head men's and women's swim coach at Bowling Green State University; and head boys and girls swim coach at Boone (Ia.) High School, among other coaching positions.

"To be at the beginning of a brand new swim program is very exciting.  The number one reason I accepted this job is that I see great potential for CSM in swimming.  The school has committed to building a great program," said Draper.  "The state of Nebraska has many swimmers who want to swim in college and I plan on recruiting extensively in Nebraska.  This program can have national potential and I see great opportunity for student athletes with the desire to compete on that level."

Draper holds a master's degree in physical education from the University of Iowa and a bachelor's degree in education from Wayne State College.

"We are thrilled to have hired someone of the caliber of Rich Draper.  He brings us a great depth of experience in recruiting and coaching swim programs on both the high school and collegiate levels," said Tara Knudson Carl, senior vice president and special assistant to the president. "We are confident he is the right person to establish our new swim program at College of Saint Mary."
