Senior Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and junior Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS) each prevailed in two individual events, helping Bentley University to a 124-73 victory over visiting Gordon College in men’s college swimming Wednesday night at the Dana Center pool. Bentley did not lose a single event in the season-opening meet.
After being a part of Bentley’s winning 200 medley relay, Laden registered victories in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.84) and the 100 individual medley (58.15 seconds). Ouellette was victorious in the 50 freestyle (22.88) and the 50 butterfly (25.23).
Bentley’s list of individual winners included three freshmen competing in their first collegiate meet: Keron Brown (Elmsford, N.Y./Iona Prep) in the 50 breaststroke (31.28), Mike Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 500 free (5:20.15) and Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) in the 200 free (1:54.19).
Also recording first place finishes for the Falcons were Willie Connolly (Washington, Conn/ Shepaug Valley HS) in the 100 free (51.50), Merrick Saindon (Goshen, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) in the 100 breast (1:12.56), Chris Argiros (Marblehead/Marblehead HS) in the 50 backstroke (28.61) and Dave Curran (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) in the 100 back (1:01.02). The first two are seniors, the latter two sophomores.
Bentley’s next meet is in Syracuse, N.Y., Saturday afternoon against Le Moyne College.

Sophomore Molly Murphy (Horseheads, N.Y./Watkins Glen HS) was a triple-winner as Bentley University cruised to a 118-92 season-opening victory over Gordon College in women’s college swimming Wednesday night at the Dana Center pool.
Murphy captured the 200 yard freestyle (2:13.67), the 100 breaststroke (1:14.19) and the 100 individual medley (1:08.49). The closest of the three races was the 200 free where her winning margin was about 2.4 seconds.
Susie Boretti (Westford/Westford Academy), also a sophomore, won two individual events, touching first in both the 50 breast (33.74) and the 500 free (5:31.15).
The list of Bentley individual winners also included juniors Anne Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) and Sarah Temple (Topsham, Maine/Cheverus HS). Kaduboski prevailed in the 100 butterfly (1:00.17) and Temple’s win came in the 50 fly (32.42).
Freshmen Taryn Dooley (Feeding Hills/Agawam HS), Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS), Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) and Kelly Mazza (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun HS) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay for the Falcons. Later, each captured an individual event with Dooley taking the 100 back (1:07.52), Hodsdon the 50 free (25.61), Drogosz the 50 back (30.08) and Mazza the 200 free (1:53.35). Hodsdon’s effort in the 50 free was the best so far this season in the Northeast-10.
Bentley, 1-0, will be back in action on Saturday with a 1 pm meet at Le Moyne College.
