Washington & Jefferson Wins Mid-Week Contest Over Chatham

WASHINGTON, Pa. , November 11th, 2009           
Sophomores C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), Katie Steider (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) and Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) all won three events during Washington & Jefferson’s 123-99 Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s swimming and diving victory over Chatham on Wednesday evening at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.  The meet was the 2009-10 home opener for the Presidents (2-0). 
 
Corcoran and Vogel teamed up for an opening 400 medley relay victory (4:13.01).  Freshmen Jamie Andrews (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Katlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) also swam on the opening relay. 
 
Dagg also won the 200 butterfly (2:16.62) for the Presidents and rounded out a three-victory evening by teaming with Steider on the 400 freestyle relay (3:52.05). 
 
Corcoran then added victories in the 200 IM (2:19.61) and 200 breaststroke (2:36.30), while Vogel touched first in the 200 freestyle (2:03.21) and 200 backstroke (2:14.07). 
 
Steider won the 50 (25.61) and 100 (56.96) freestyle events, while classmate Bethany Haver (Akron, Ohio/Harvey S. Firestone) claimed both diving titles.  Haver posted 213.25 points in the 1-meter event and then garnered 219.85 points on the 3-meter platform. 
 
Sophomore Emily Couch (Round Rock, Texas/Stony Point) continued her strong start with a 500 freestyle triumph (5:46.75). 
 
Washington & Jefferson returns to its non-conference schedule Saturday when traveling to Berea, Ohio, for a 1:00 pm dual meet with Baldwin-Wallace.
