Junior Brandon Smith (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) won three events, including swimming a leg on the opening 200-meter medley win, to lead Washington & Jefferson's sweep of Frostburg State on Wednesday evening. The W&J men garnered a 116-80 victory, while the women's team posted a 106-86 triumph.
Smith helped the 200 medley team win in a time of 1:55.93 and then racked up individual victories in the 100-meter backstroke (1:05.07) and 200-meter IM (2:19.54).
Sophomore Keyton Kalakewich (Monongahela, Pa./Charleroi) also notched three wins. He swam a leg on the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:42.80) after touching first in the 50 (25.20) and 100 (57.65) freestyles.
The Washington & Jefferson women were led by junior Chrissy Brant (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) and sophomores C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and Katie Steider (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville), who all notched a pair of wins.
Brant and Corcoran teamed for a 200 freestyle relay victory (1:57.40), while Brant took top honors in the 100-meter backstroke (1:12.67) and Corcoran touched first in the 50-meter freestyle (28.36). Steider opened the meet on the first leg of the 200 medley relay win and then claimed the 100-meter freestyle (1:02.70).
Freshman Patrick O'Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel) had a strong first collegiate meet for the men's squad as he earned first place in the 400 (4:29.07) and 800 (9:23.40) meter freestyles.
The Washington & Jefferson women open their home schedule next Wednesday when hosting Chatham in a PAC meet at 6:00 pm. The men return to action on Nov. 14th at the Baldwin-Wallace dual meet (1:00 pm).
