St. Mary's Takes Third Straight Over Randolph-Macon

Senior Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis) and freshman Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) each racked up a pair of individual first-place finishes in leading St. Mary's College of Maryland to its third consecutive win with a 123-82 triumph over Randolph-Macon College in non-conference women's swimming action.
The Seahawks (3-0) touched the wall first in eight events while Randolph-Macon (1-1) captured the 1000 freestyle (Lara O'Brien, 11:26.39), the 500 freestyle (Rebecca Stevenson, 5:31.04), and the 400 freestyle relay (3:49.31).
Hotchko claimed gold medals in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events while swimming the third leg of the winning 400 medley relay. She posted a first-place finish in the 200 free in 2:01.64 while touching the wall first in 55.99 in the 100 free.
Heyde picked up a gold medal in the 200 individual medley as she led a 1-2-3 finish in the event. She came in first in 2:11.45 followed by junior captain Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in second in 2:21.72 and sophomore Katie Serfling (Frederick, Md./Urbana) in third in 2:25.91.
Heyde also took first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.15 while swimming the lead leg of the winning 400 medley relay. Joining Hotchko and Heyde on the first-place 400 medley relay were Sokolove and freshman Melanie Bloch (Bethesda, Md./French International).
Sokolove captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:36.33 while Bloch nabbed a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 25.53. Senior captain Monika Disque (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke in 2:23.11.
Freshman Maddie Casey (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) finished second in both the 1000 free and the 500 free in 11:32.79 and 5:37.06, respectively.
St. Mary's finished second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:52.50 behind the efforts of Casey, freshman Chelsea Gulliver (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Disque, and Bloch.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool tomorrow when St. Mary's welcomes Gallaudet University and Goucher College to the ARC Aquatics Center for a double dual meet at 1:00 pm.
