Seahawks Sweep Houston, Emory

Junior Caitlin Kirsteier set a pool record in the 100 Butterfly and swam on a pair of pool-record setting relays to lead UNC Wilmington to a pair of dual meet wins over visiting Houston and Emory on Saturday at the Seahawk Natatorium.

UNCW also earned a win on the men’s side as the Seahawks topped Emory 170.5-122.5. The Lady Seahawks beat Emory, 164-131, and Houston, 162-135, to complete the non-conference sweeps. The men improved to 3-1 while the ladies ran their winning streak to four and stand at 4-1 on the season.

Kirsteier, who was celebrating her 22nd birthday, fashioned a time of 55.09 in the 100 Butterfly and broke her own pool record set just a week ago against Old Dominion. The senior also swam a leg on the meet-opening 200 Medley Relay that recorded a pool-record time of 1:44.79. She closed out the meet swimming the anchor leg of the final pool-record setting 400 Freestyle Relay (3:28.25).

Junior Bobby Guntoro collected three wins for UNCW, winning the 100 Freestyle (47.13), 100 Butterfly (51.01) and swimming a leg on the winning 200 Medley (1:44.79).

Seniors Rob Anderson and Andrew Rogers were also multiple event winners for the Seahawks. Anderson claimed first-place in both the 50 Freestyle (21.37) and 100 Breaststroke (57.51) and swam a leg of the winning 200 Medley Relay. Rogers, meanwhile, captured the 100 and 200 Backstrokes with times of 52.93 and 1:56.00, respectively.

Joining Kirsteier as individual event winners were sophomores Caroline Little and Hilary Fritz. Little won the women’s 100 Breaststroke with a time of 2:10.06, while Fritz checked in at 2:05.30 in the 200 Backstroke.

In diving action, Houston’s Anastasia Pozdniakova set a pair of venue marks in winning the 1- and 3-meter boards. Pozdniakova scored 354.75 points in the 1-meter and 359.95 in the 3-meter.

Senior Matt Arb won the men’s 3-meter board for the Seahawks with 300.45 points while junior Kobi Salinas topped the field in the 1-meter with 293.85 points.

The Seahawks return to action on Nov. 6-7, when they visit Newark, Del., for a Colonial Athletic Association quad meet against host Delaware, Towson and George Mason.
