The University of New Orleans intrasquad meet came down to the men's side of each squad with the Privateer Silver team defeating the Blue squad 114-76 on Saturday at Lakefront Aquatic Center.
While the women from each squad tied at 43 points apiece, the Silver team captained by Mark Schindler and Tess Sweatman had a 71-33 advantage from the men.
"The team did great today," said Horner. "It was good to see our dedication to long course training all fall is paying off."
"The men progressed tremendously since the Stanford meet two weeks ago. Most of the team set personal 'in season' best times and that is all you can ask for in an intrasquad meet in September."
Newcomers were a bright spot on the day for the women as 6 of 8 event winners came from the latest group of Privateers.
"The freshman women have made their presence known on the team today," said Horner. "With 6 of 8 individual events being women by freshmen, I really like how our team is shaping up."
During the alumni exhibition side of the meet, multiple school-record holder Ashley McClelland continued her success by sweeping all four events - the 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast and 50 free.
Other Privateer alum participating on Saturday were Lindsey Townsend, Alissa Dundes, Fernanda Previgliano, Sarah Gros and Tory Sciortino. Of the group, only Sciortino had ever experienced a competitive swim at the Lakefront Aquatic Center, despite all competing for four years.
Both teams will have several weeks until their next competition. The UNO women will next compete at Tulane on Oct. 3 with the men resuming their season on Oct. 17 against SMU in Denton, Texas.
