Ranking the Classes (W): #2 Arizona

When it comes to recruiting, some schools have a flair for public relations. They make sure they’re seen at certain meets, send out individual releases on each signee and generally make a production out of the process. Despite a one of the best SID’s in the country, that’s not the Wildcat way. Arizona it seems goes about things with a workmanlike approach that has earned the respect of coaches and won national championships. In other words, they walk the walk.

Case in point – Aubrey Peacock. The Bolles backstroker claimed to have little knowledge of the program until coach Sergio Lopez suggested it would be a good fit. "I never expected that I would be so impressed," she said. "There were a number of programs that could provide me with the training I was looking for, but only Arizona offered the complete package."

Complete package also describes what Arizona got when it landed Y-National Swimmer of the Year Margo Geer and local Sarah Denninghoff. While coaches and the world fawned over a certain IM’er from North Dakota, those in the know felt Geer, much like Lacey Nymeyer before her, could have a bigger impact on the collegiate level and when teamed with Denninghoff keep the Cats’ relays rolling.

Gauging that collegiate impact is especially important when evaluating international signees. It is also why Lindsay Seeman would appear a good bet for NCAA success. Seeman has enjoyed her best times in short course meters and follows in the footsteps of fellow Canadians Jake Tapp and Joel Greenshields. Tapp and Greenshields are of course on the men’s team, but that has turned into a selling point for the Wildcats. "I wanted to be in a program where the men and women train together, explained Peacock. "This actually took a number of excellent programs off of my list."

Three more recruits – Gracie Finnegan, Hallie Stupp and Kaitlyn Flederbach – make appearances in the top-100. That won’t be enough to replace a huge signing class, but it does mean the Wildcats could have a few more additions coming on board.

Just don’t expect them to make a big production out of it.
