Washington & Jefferson Sweeps Bethany

The Washington & Jefferson College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept a PAC dual meet from Bethany College on Wednesday evening.  The W&J men (6-1-1, 2-1 PAC) posted a 98-62 win, while the Presidents’ women (9-0, 4-0 PAC) remained undefeated with a 119-73 victory.

Junior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), this week’s PAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, and freshman Isabella Diaz (Walnut Creek, Calif./Las Lomas) both had a pair of individual wins to lead the women’s squad.

Corcoran claimed the 100 butterfly (1:02.30) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.61) events, while Diaz touched first in the 500 (5:31.49) and 1000 (11:20.40) freestyles.

The men’s squad was paced by senior Max Mock (Cheswick, Pa./Central Catholic), who was a part of three victories.  He helped the 200 medley relay to a win in the opening race with a time of 1:45.47 and then posted first-place times in the 100 backstroke (58.68) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.05).

Sophomore Mike Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) joined Mock on the winning relay and also notched the 50 freestyle (23.64).  Junior Jonathan Weeks (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) was victorious in the 100 (50.06) and 1000 (10:45.93) freestyle events before leading the 400 freestyle relay (3:33.00) to another triumph.

Senior Kyra Fedorovich (McKeesport, Pa./South Allegheny) swam on both winning women’s relays.  The 200 medley relay posted 2:03.07, while the 400 freestyle relay recorded a time of 4:45.58.

Washington & Jefferson has two days off before returning to the pool Saturday (1:00 pm) for a conference dual meet with longtime rival Grove City.
